Phrao
is surrounded by mountain areas and so the still real jungle is
very close and starts not far from the back of Doi Farang Bungalow.
You will find various hilltribes with their different cultures
and history. Most of them are AKHA with their very exotic and
beautiful costumes. They are friendly, very generous people, and
always happy to see and entertain foreigners when they visit.
Another
hilltribe - the LAHU - , the Thai's call them MUSUR which means
hunters, is not far away and their village is situated in a beautiful
small valley.
Several
LISU villages are close by and one is just some 500 M. away and
you can see the people with their colorful dresses. Many Lisu
people bring their fruits and vegetables to the local market in
Phrao.
And
then we have the KAREN not far away with easy access by 4WD vehicle.
They are very friendly and gentle people and you can watch them
weaving cloth, traditional shirts, and bags.
You
can visit from here Chiang Dao and it's Cave - just 42km and 45
min. drive away - and on to the Taeng Dao Elephant Training Center
another 15km. |
